"Because I was born when I was born
(1937) and due to the fact that I became aware of
abstract art during the fifties – even as it was
beginning to recede in popularity – I am an abstract
expressionist painter. I think of abstract expressionism
as being the purest, most mysterious, most personal,
albeit self indulgent, style of art.
Besides all the great artists of my time
and before my time, many other things have influenced my
style of art.
The most important of all other
influences, I think, is my love for Asian calligraphy,
in particular, Arabic script. - Second in importance
is my continuing fascination for ancient, modern and
contemporary architecture. - Thirdly is my attraction
to haute couture, with the outrageous Christian Dior
being my favorite designer.
The following quote by Leo Tolstoy comes
close in describing what I feel about art: “Art is an
organ of human life, transmitting man’s reasonable
perception into feeling.”
